Star Chapter #447
Minutes of Meeting on August 3, 2010
The monthly meeting of Star Chapter 447 was held on August 3, 2010 at Cool Water Catering Restaurant.
President Ray Coulter, called the meeting to order and lead in prayer.
Minutes of the July, 2010 meeting were read by Jean Grobe, Secretary. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Rodney Huckeby and seconded by Julie Graham.
Treasurer, Steve Leslie, gave the Treasurer’s Report. We had 859.61 in the treasury, after expenditures of $600 for coffee to sell, $37.50 deposit from the 50/50 drawing and we have $200 in the Special Olympics fund. We also have $25 in petty cash.
Julie Graham, fund raiser Chairman, reported that approximately 70 + bags had been sold for a total gross revenue of $1,124. It was also reported that due to the lack of a vendor’s license, we were unable to sell coffee as planned at Star Days.
Romona Leslie, Entertainment Chairman, reported on our couples outing at Olive Garden. 17 members came and a great time was had by all. She is planning an autumn picnic in early October at Holmes County State Park.
Ray reported on the chapter ride to Star Days in Chattanooga, TN. It was educational for those attending. The Food Drop was outstanding and the Banquet was nice. Caroline road the dragon by herself and Rodney reported on the tour of the Jack Daniels factory in Lynchberg, TN. Members had a chance to network with other Star members and officers. The next Star Days will be held in Wisconsin.
Jean Grobe suggested we set a budget for the year. Coffee sales obviously going to Special Olympics but what was our goal? Steve suggested $2000 and Romona seconded. It was voted on and approved.
Julie requested a ride to Avery Island. Caroline requested a ride to Birmingham. Susie requested a ride to ___________________. Ray stated the group is planning a ride to the Pig Trail in Arkansas in late September or early October.
John Gray reported on a business called Southern Connections that he visited that can digitize our logo to be sewn on any shirt. The cost to digitize is $60. He is going to get more info on the cost to embroider or etch our logo after the digitizing cost is paid.
Ray mentioned the Little Sturgis ride. Some of the members are going on Friday and some on Saturday. Members were to get with John if they were going to leave on Friday or Vernon if they are going to leave on Saturday.
There is a poker run at Got Gear on 9/11 for Breast Cancer
Also on 9/11 we need to be in Meridian for their Charter signing. The group needs to leave at 7:30 or 8:00.
Star-Ba-Laya is in Shreveport October 2nd.
Susie and Rodney won the 50/50. Susie got $13 and Rodney got $12.
Vernon asked about the coffee monies. Are they reinvested or is the club paid back. The club was paid back the initial investment of $600.
Vernon moved to adjourn and Henry seconded.
