Star 447 meeting
Clyde Graham, President, called the meeting to order. Walt Drane led in prayer for blessing of the meal and our meeting. Jean Grobe read the minutes for the January meeting. Ray Coulter made the motion to approve the minutes and Henry Helton seconded.
Steve Leslie, Treasurer, reported $25 in petty cash, $995 in checking and $2,469 in Special Olympic funds for a total of $3,489.00. He also reminded the chapter that dues are due. Discussion was held about making the presentation of our donation and whether or not our logo would appear on the Tee shirts. John Gray will call and set it up.
Romona Leslie, Social Chairman, reported that a nice group met for dinner at Bonefish and a good time was had by all. The ladies of the star will meet Tuesday, February 8th at Chili’s for dinner and then will attend a movie at Malco Theater. Also, a girl’s trip to the beach is scheduled for April 8th. She asked for a list of all who intend to go.
Ray Coulter reported for the Ride Committee. The chapter went up the trace to French Camp for lunch the prior Saturday with 13 bikes and 15 riders. It was a great ride! He asked for suggestions for the upcoming chapter ride which will be the second weekend in February. Please contact Bill, Ray, John, Vernon or Rodney for suggested rides. John mentioned the Gin Mill Gallery and the BB King Museum, Kentwood, La., and Walt suggested Lake Tiahcotta. The committee will email everyone by Tuesday with upcoming ride info.
Pete Breslin, Sargent at Arms, reminded everyone that we need updated ride waivers from all members for 2011.
Star Ba Laya was the next topic of the meeting. First question was about which charity we would support with any proceeds from the event. Feed the Children, Star Family Foundation and Special Olympics were the charities that were mentioned. After discussion, it was decided that we would support Special Olympics, retain 10% for our chapter and give no more than 20% of the proceeds from Star Ba Laya to Star Family Foundation.
Steve reported on locations he had researched and it was decided the event would be held at the Hyatt.
It was decided that several committees needed to be formed to handle the details of the event. Signup sheets were placed by the door for members to volunteer for the committees.
Raymond Walters from Got Gear announced that they will feed the participants in the even the Friday night meal. He also stated that it is almost certain the Star Truck will be here for the event. He also let us know that Got Gear is beginning a pickup and delivery service for bikes repairs and maintenance. A meet and greet was also suggested for Got Gear.
Much discussion took place concerning the Star Ba Laya event we are hosting. The following is a brief summary of what we decided at the meeting:
Star Ba Laya schedule as it stands now:
Registration begins Friday Morning and ends Saturday Morning. A registration packet with t-shirts and other give away items will be presented to the participants. A medical emergency card will be part of the registration packet.
Silent Auction is in place Friday and goes through Saturday evening. These items will be donated by members or solicited by members as a donation.
Got Gear provides dinner Friday Night. Could be at the hotel but probably at Got Gear.
Saturday morning is for the Trivia Ride. The ride route will include the trace and other historical sites of interest for the riders. All registered participants are on their own for lunch Saturday.
Saturday afternoon will be for the bike games. This will be held at the hotel.
Saturday evening is dinner at the hotel with a band for entertainment. Trophies have been suggested for the trivia ride, bike games, and as well as oldest rider, longest distance traveled, etc. These will be presented on Saturday night.
Sunday morning will be breakfast provided by the hotel and then blessing of the bikes as the attendees leave.
The registration cost for the Star Ba Laya is $15 per person up until September 1st. After that date, the cost goes to $20 per person. This was voted on with Ray making the motion and Vernon seconding it.
Cliff Coulter is working on the graphics for the tee shirt.
Steve mentioned the financial success of our event depends on the price of gas as well as donations. We expect donations from all the dealers in Mississippi and Louisiana and feel that will cover the cost of tee shirts and maybe some other cost.
The membership then voted on two new members: Mike Schultz and Jerry Fitzpatrick. Vern made the motion to accept them into our chapter and Ray seconded it.
It was announced that one of our members, Ketar Abaied is selling his bike for $9500 if anyone is interested.
Vernon moved the meeting be adjourned and Ray seconded.
