Minutes of meeting on September 7, 2010

 

Ray Coulter, President, called the meeting to order and Walt Drane lead in opening prayer.  Before business was conducted, Ray introduced John and Molly Murphy, Harley riders and prospective members. 

Walt Drane addressed the group to express his appreciation for the flowers, cards, email, etc. from the members for the loss of his mother.

Jean Grobe, Secretary, read the minutes from the prior meeting.  Josie Grubbs moved to accept the minutes and Larry Grubbs seconded.

Steve Leslie, Treasurer, reported the chapter has $1459.61 in the bank.  $600 of this was deposited from coffee sales (seed money), $96 was direct coffee sales, $200 was donated to the coffee fund for a total of $296 in the coffee fund for Special Olymics and $25 in petty cash.  That gives us a grand total in the bank and on hand of $1780.61.  Larry moved the report be accepted as read and Josie seconded.

Romona Leslie, Entertainment Chairman, reported that a couples get together is planned for nex Tuesday, September 14th at Outback in North Jackson.  Members need to respond by Tuesday night to Romona if they are coming.  The ladies of star are all invited to come paint a snowman at Easely Amused on Friday night, September 10th.  October 9th is our fall picnic at Holmes County State Park.  The pavilion rental is $75 and the club will provide the hot dogs and hamburgers for the event.  The ladies will all fix a dish to bring or send.  Jean moved that the club pay the $75 for the pavilion rental and pay for the hot dogs and hamburgers for this event.  Josie seconded.  We will also invite the Meridian and Laurel chapters to attend.  Romona reported on several options for places to have our Christmas party.  Menus were passed around and it was decided to have our party at Fairview Inn.  Josie made the motion to do so and Vernon seconded.

Julie Graham reported that we had 46 bags of coffee left.  Several ideas were presented on how to sell the coffee from taking and letting the customer smell it to packaging it in a basket.  Julie also presented the Treasurer with $496 in cash and checks from sales.

Vernon reminded the chapter that we are leaving Saturday morning at 7 for the Charter signing in Meridian from the Waffle House at Crossgates.

John reminded the chapter of the Yahtzee run on 9/18 for Sunnybrook Home.

Ray announced that Cool Water Café is having an Open House Thursday night from 5:30 – 6:30.

John and Molly Murphy were introduced as prospective members.  Larry Grubbs made the motion to accept them into the chapter.  Josie seconded.  They were voted into membership.

The 50/50 drawing was held and won by Julie Graham.  She won $40.

Ray encouraged us to recruit new members, especially younger members.  It was suggested that we have cards or flyers to hand out to prospective members.

Josie moved to adjourn the meeting and Romona seconded.
